On Friday, July 1, 2022, clergy and faithful of the Western American Diocese and from other Orthodox Jurisdictions honored the memory of Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco the Wonderworker at Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco, CA, by participating in the vigil before his honorable and miraculous relics.
His Eminence Kyrill Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America was formally greeted at 6:00 pm before the start of the vigil. Concelebrating with him were His Grace Theodosy Bishop of Seattle and His Grace Nicholai Bishop of Manhattan along with many priests and deacons.
Two choirs chanted the hymns for the Divine Service, both the magnificent cathedral choir under the direction of Vladimir Krassovsky and a small choir made up of clergy that sang on kliros.
There were long lines both to venerate the honorable relics of Saint John and also for confession and the faithful prepared to receive Holy Communion the next morning. During the anointing at matins, a holy icon of Saint John and blessed bread were passed out to each of the faithful.
