On March 9, 2014, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the "Triumph of Orthodoxy with the Anathema Service" was performed in the New Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos "Joy of All Who Sorrow."
His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill presided over the rite. Concelebrating with him were Archimandrite Irenei (Steenberg), Archpriest Stefan Pavlenko, Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, Archpriest Serge Kotar, and Archpriest Leonid Kazakov (Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate), as well as Protodeacon Nicholas Triantifillidis and Deacon George Chrebtow.
During the "Anathema Service" Protodeacon Nicholas Triantafillidis triumphantly proclaimed the "Great Prokeimenon": "Who is the God as great as our God? Thou art the God Who workest wonders." Furthermore, he solemnly recited the "Symbol of Faith of the Orthodox Church," the list of Anathemas against all who belong to or spread heresies or honor other confessions equally with Orthodoxy, "Memory Eternal" to right-believing emperors and kings, as well as the great theologians, teachers and confessors amidst the hierarchs of the One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and finally "Many Years" to all the living Orthodox bishops and faithful.
His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill read the prayer for the return of those who are outside the fold of Mother Church: "Turn not Thy face away from us, O Lord. Grant unto us the joy of Thy Salvation. Bestow, O Lord, upon the pastors of Thy Church holy zeal and temper their regard for the return of apostates in the spirit of the Gospel..."
At the end of the Divine Service the clergy and faithful venerated the holy icons.
