His Grace Bishop Irenei, the Second Auxiliary of the Western American Diocese, Speaks at Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY
With God's grace, another school year has been successfully completed. This Sunday, May 28, 2017, Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary celebrated its 69th Annual Commencement with a Service of Thanksgiving, commencement exercises, and a reception. We graduated six students, four receiving honors ranging from cum laude to summa cum laude.
Along with opening and closing remarks by the Rector and Abbot Archimandrite Luke, the Most Revered Irenei (Steenberg), bishop of Sacramento, provided the commencement address. A newly elevated bishop of the Western American Dioceses with a doctorate from Oxford in Patristics and experience in higher education, he delivered a very powerful speech about how to bring the light of Christ into the world after receiving a theological education.
Bishop Irenei also emphasized the unique status of Holy Trinity Seminary as theological institution. It not only provides a traditional Orthodox education but also shapes the entire lives of its students, allowing them to be completely enveloped in the rhythm of the church, and thus, creating lasting habits that provide a solid compass to help them navigate through the world.
Throughout the day students, family, and friends shared in the joyful successes of the graduates, were inspired by the grace-filled addresses, and enjoyed fellowship at the reception.
We thank God for His constant assistance to our mission, and we pray for our graduates as they transition into the next stage of their journeys!
